Briggs E&T will be providing comprehensive testing and inspection services on the new upcoming 1,055-room Omni Hotel located on a 2.1-acre parcel across from the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center (BCEC).
The new 788,500-square-foot hotel will feature two new 21-story towers connected by a three-story ground-floor podium. The hotel will include 746 standard rooms 386 square feet in size, as well as 278 innovation rooms 250 square feet in size. The hotel will also include 120,000 square feet of meeting and event space including two large 25,000-square-foot and 15,500-square-foot ballrooms, 35,000 square feet of restaurant space, 5,000 square feet of retail space and an 8,500-square-foot spa and fitness center. Guest amenities will include a rooftop pool; the hotel could also include an above-ground skating rink.The hotel will be connected to the BCEC via an existing underground tunnel below Summer Street, and to the World Trade Center MBTA Silver Line station and upcoming South Boston Waterfront Transportation Center (SBWTC) via a covered walkway along World Trade Center Avenue. No parking will be constructed as part of the Omni Hotel; approximately 400 parking spaces in the SBWTC will be reserved for the Omni Hotel. A porte-cochere for valet parking and pickup/dropoff will be located off of Summer Street within the Omni Hotel’s building footprint. One Omni Hotel tower may include a large LED sign.
The Omni Hotel development team will enter a 90-year ground lease for the 2.1-acre hotel parcel with owner Massport. Construction of the Omni Hotel is anticipated to commence in the third quarter of 2018, with completion expected in 2021; construction of the hotel would take approximately 30 months. The Omni Hotel will be built to a minimum of LEED Silver sustainability specifications.
